第31番札所 五台山 金色院 竹林寺

The 31st Godaizan Konjikiin Chikurinji

唐の五台山で文殊菩薩を拝まれている夢を見た天皇は、わが国にも文殊菩薩をまつるために、これに似た羨望も美しい霊地があるにちがいないと、探しだしたのが竹林寺のはじまりである。

高知市街や、浦戸湾、浜まで一望できる景勝地でもある。

Emperor had a dream that he worshipped MonjuBosatsu at mountain in China. He started to look for the same landscape in Japan. Here is beautiful landscape that you can see Kochi city, Urado bay, and beach.

弘学僧・名僧があつまる「南海第一道場」とされた学問寺院である。

受験生たちは、文殊菩薩の知恵のご利益を受けるため、祈祷にくる。

また、「播磨屋橋で坊さんかんざし買うを見た」で有名な「よさこい節」に登場する坊主がこの寺の脇坊にいた。

It is known as “Nankai 1st Doujou” which is academic temple. Students preparing for an entrance exam come this temple to receive wisdom from MonjuBosatsu.
 

騎獅子文殊

四人の侍者を伴い、獅子にまたがった騎獅子文殊として有名。

重要文化財の本尊文殊菩薩は日本最古といわれている。

本尊は50年に一度の御開帳。

This is a famous MonjuBosatsu riding on a gigantic lion and statues of four flanking attendants. This main deity is the oldest MonjuBosastu in Japan and defined as important cultural properties.
