第12番札所 摩廬山 正寿院 焼山寺

The 12th Marozan Syojyuin Syozanji

ご本尊　虚空蔵菩薩

ご詠歌　のちの世を 思へばくぎやう焼山寺 死出や三途の 難所ありとも

標高938mの焼山寺山は、天空を飛翔した修験道の開祖の役行者小角が開基。

納経所で「除災招福の札」を授与している。

6ヶ所ある遍路ころがしの１つめとしても有名である。

険しい山道12キロは、健脚5時間、平均6時間、弱足8時間。または、男8時間、女9時間と言われている。

This Shozanji Mountain is 938m height. You can receive “get rid of bad luck, take good luck” charm at Noukeijo. This is 1st one among 6 difficult parts. Mountain path is about 12km, 5h for good walker, average is 6h, 8h for slow walker. Or 8h for man and 9h for woman.

仏像が境内までの道のりに鎮座している。

Buddha statues are placed on this path.

白蛇

弘法大師は、民衆に害悪を与える大蛇を退治しに焼山寺へ向かった。山に火を放ち、抵抗する大蛇を岩窟に封印したと言われている。

white snake

Kukai went to this temple to conquer big snake which do wrong to people. He set a fire to the mountain and pushed and sealed this snake into the cave.
